Missions of the St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association

Objects, Visions and Missions

The SKNSA was founded in 2013 to promote sailing in the Federation and gain recognition Internationally by supporting development efforts of our member clubs in sailing programs through membership and partnership with regional and international sailing associations.  

The objects of the St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association are:

  • to promote, organise, administer and represent yachting and boating on a national and international basis.

  • to promote and control the representation of St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association yachts and sailors at international regattas and Olympic Games.

  • to maintain its status as a Full Member of the International Sailing Federation Limited (ISAF) by virtue of being the National Authority for St Kitts and Nevis.

  • to recognise and support ISAF

The St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association envisions:

  • Sailing as a National and lifetime sport for all.

  • Sailing as a leading recreation activity for fitness and health.

  • Sailing included in school curriculum as part of Physical Education (along with swimming).

  • Sailing as a positive outlet for our youth (instead of gangs and malice behaviour) a place where they are safe.

  • Sailing as an opportunity for youth to become well rounded, self sufficient and team orientated young adults.

  • Sailing seen as an opportunity to prepare oneself for a career in the growing tourism industry in St Kitts and Nevis and internationally.

  • Sailing representing St Kitts and Nevis in Regional, International and Olympic events.

  • Introduce annual regattas and sailing events to St Kitts and Nevis to increase our regional profile within the sailing world.

The St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association’s missions are:

  • Raise our sailor’s rankings.

  • Performance consistent with other leading Nations in our Region.

  • More of our people, especially youth, taking up sailing as a sport to become lifetime sailors.

  • To help provide trained sailors and water sport safety certified people to growing businesses in these arenas.

  • Our Nation as a regional hub for the sport of sailing.

  • Lead and uphold high standards of sportsmanship and seamanship.

  • Position the St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association as a leading National sport organisation in our country and as a prominent ISAF MNA.

  • St Kitts Nevis Sailing Association are proud members of:

  • St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC)

  • World Sailing (recognised by the International Olympic Committee)

  • Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA)

  • International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA)
